Ghost hunters first need to locate the ghost. Usually the common places where ghosts are located are abandoned houses, cemeteries, old battle fields and even mental asylums. Apart from all of this ghost hunters are called by people who are being harassed by ghosts. Sometimes when a person dies especially when their death was violent their spirit remains behind and so they began haunting the area. The ghost hunters also conduct interviews and research regarding the haunted place.

Ghost hunters use a digital manual camera to capture the presence of ghosts. The ghosts usually appear as a blurry object or a streak of light.  But ghost hunters use camcorder because it captures more details, also tape recorders for capturing sound that normally cannot be heard and some other special equipment like EMF detector to pick up disturbances across a wide range of frequencies.

Ghost hunting has been heavily criticized for its total absence of scientific method

Many ghost hunters say they find evidence of ghosts and that cannot be explained scientifically or by natural means.
